PRESS RELEASE: On-demand tutoring is here to stay - 2016-12-08

On-demand tutoring is here to stay

Two years ago very few people had heard of Uber, but it has fast become a widely used term. Uber achieved massive success not by inventing new products, but by disrupting the way industries operate and by making everyone’s lives more convenient in the process.

Today there’s an Uber for everything and the Uber for tutoring now bridges the gap between tutors and students. On-demand tutoring has become increasingly popular in recent years as a means to complement classroom instruction and reinforce the learning process.

Cognition.Online director Kyle Dodds says on-demand companies like Uber succeed by putting information at our fingertips and giving us what we want namely instant gratification. “The on-demand economy is all about now and transparency.”

“I need the best rated most affordable grade 8 math tutor now; I need one that is in my area and one that is available during the afternoons. Show me a list of tutors that meet my requirements and are ready to go,” he explains.

In every era, the wealthy have demanded one-on-one or small-group instruction, tailored for themselves or their offspring. On-demand tutoring, the possibility to connect with a live tutor anytime – anywhere, is quickly becoming the standard.

Cognition.Online is an app-based platform on iOS and Android that performs matches between student demand and tutor supply on a price the market defines. The app is packed with ground breaking features to connect students and tutors in a unique way.

Dodds says education is an expensive proposition for students and their families. “Tutoring is a small investment, a small percentage of the total cost of education and it may make an enormous difference. On-demand tutoring is the wave of the future. Students can get the kind of service that they demand and if they don’t like it, they can get a different tutor.”

He believes individualised learning to complement traditional in-class learning is growing in popularity among parents, educators and schools. “One-on-one mentorship is also fast becoming an alternative to producing high levels of academic achievement.”

“Preparing throughout the year is the most effective way to do well on your final exams, there is just no shortcut for knowing the material. However, even if it’s the night before your final exam and you’re feeling unprepared, don’t panic, we have the solution,” he concludes.

Disaster looming for final exams

Tutoring app is the answer

At a time when quality education is becoming unaffordable, private tutoring is emerging as a flexible and affordable education resource. The flexible nature of tutoring allows parents to book tutoring sessions that fit their pockets.

A group of young entrepreneurs have launched an app that could be the saving grace for many parents and students. This comes just weeks before the much dreaded final exams, a time of sleepless nights, anxiety and generally poor health.

Now coined the Uber of private tutoring, Cognition.Online is an app-based platform on iOS and Android that performs matches between student demand and tutor supply on a price the market defines. The app is packed with ground breaking features to connect students and tutors in a unique way.

Cognition.Online director Kyle Dodds says Cognition.Online will allow students and tutors to connect in meaningful ways from anywhere and more efficiently than in the past. “You request a lesson, we get it in front of the right tutors, they bid, you choose, pay and get better marks.”

Individualised learning to complement traditional in-class learning is growing in popularity among parents, educators and schools. One-on-one mentorship is also fast becoming an alternative to producing high levels of academic achievement.

“Preparing throughout the year is the most effective way to do well on your final exams, there is just no shortcut for knowing the material. However, even if it’s the night before your final exam and you’re feeling unprepared, don’t panic, we have the solution,” he explains.

Dodds says finding the right tutor online could help you pass your exams. “Using our intuitive system, it merely takes a moment to request a lesson based on all the necessary information.”

Tutors that meet the requirements are then able to actively apply for these requested lessons. Based on previous ratings from other students and the tutor’s profile, a student is able to select from the list of tutors.

“With Cognition.Online, tutors and students are able to connect based on their location. Innovative pairing ensures available tutors fit your criteria and will then be able to apply for the job. It’s just up to you to choose who you would like,” he says.

To ensure a high level of competence, all tutors are screened and approved. The app allows available tutors to apply for lessons Instead of students sifting through lists of unavailable tutors.

Cognition.Online has kept the process of booking a tutor as simple as possible, in a few simple steps one is able to have a tutor,” he concludes.

PRESS RELEASE: Educators rave about tutoring app - 2016-10-25

Educators rave about tutoring app

Entrepreneurs have the ability to innovate in challenging times. While the education system is falling apart, Cognition.Online is revolutionising the tutoring industry, connecting students and tutors in a unique way.

There was a buzz at the Digital Education Show Africa recently when Cognition.Online showcased its latest app, now coined the Uber of private tutoring. The company was represented as one of the few featured start-ups at the Show.

Cognition.Online director Kyle Dodds says it allowed the team to network with various influential people in the education industry including CSI executives from various blue chip companies, government officials from the Department of Education and delegates from various educational institutions.

“Everyone saw synergies in what they were offering and our soon to be launched CSI program that will reach underprivileged children. This was one of the big interests as well as our ability to distribute educational content to students in need,” he explains.

This app comes at a perfect time when the country’s failing education system desperately needs innovation to transform it. Cognition.Online had the opportunity to present to the public, media and educational officials on the impact that two-sided marketplaces such as our own can have on education and with the aid of corporates, how this extends to those who can’t afford private tuition.

“The response was overwhelming and few could believe that this was entirely developed in South Africa as well as funded solely by ourselves. Our team brought a certain youthful energy to the show that was thoroughly enjoyed by the organisers and people involved,” he concludes.
